The other list

23 Aug

start at the start

SERIOUS work to do on this, Estelle if you do nose in, this is a many year planned list of culture that i feel enhances our spirit.

And example - we all watched the THREE COLOURS films in early 80s and they changed us.

Many important films of the 70s and 80s - e.g. Deerhunter, similarly changed us. But some were bleak  - its as if 'postmodernity' almost started around then. But there were far less slightly cynical movies that...well, changed me

Watching

Even having travelled earlier the Far East, one didn't really understand the people, and seeing the superb acting of Dith Prahn's role  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dith_Pran

well, if one does not fall in love with him and his extraordinary bravery ...and even cry hearing of his death as i did,  one is not fully human. Films like this change you for good reasons.

The beginning...

in the humble opinion of one scribe - sadly only one for now, so so interesting!

I wonder if anyone has noticed:  Throughout especially the second half, as all sorts of rather bad news if given to poor old Creon - he's a bit of a nutjob vicious one,  and always the whole court is around him, when his peeps - his advisors and even the bearers of bad news,  explain to him "ehhh... you reap what you sow old duffer"  the whole context from the context of the way the courtiers act, to the dialog, to the acting out i am sure accurate representation of the original work, is that there is no comprehension  - no possibility, that the old duffer will hurt the bearer of uncomfortable home truth.

This is quite astounding if you stop and think about it.

Painful home truths nowadays and probably even in Shakespeare's day would receive short shift and often the body shortening by the length of a head. But in this ancient play, even a modern representation  which clearly shows a 'culture', or 'mindset' it is almost considered an honourable fine  thing to be told what a twat you were... which is based on fair critique it certainly is. Indeed is civilisation itself. And in my opinion one couldn't imagine such a dialog (with context or 'evidence' the psyches are real rather than two faced) ...today...anywhere..

(maybe Bolivia?)

Zorba The Greek.

behind a paywall BUT I KNOW ALL THE PIRATE sites...

Certainly one of the greatest movies of all time, despite this scribe holding out with his nasty racial bias for several decades seeing it described so, internally pondering "no way some bloody dinosaur Greeks can manage to film something even half as good as If by Anderson...woke bullshit reviewing "

And discovering he was wrong.

And the sexiest sex scene in cinematic history, does not require even her stocking to be rolled down.... or any rude bits.

MORE TO COME SOON

just gorgeous but what a daughter hater. Warwick's daughter played the violin in the soundtrack and it's as good as her dad's utterly mindfuckingly gorgeous real tale of real people and yet you can't get her violin plucking anywhere

A LOT MORE WORK ON THIS WILL BE DONE...very soon

This page in development. Summer I am not often at a plug for the day. All hurried. Will be finessed in autumn.

A list to add to my blue book  - photographed - if i die find it !! :-)

Unplanned, because for me the summer is for days at the river, the list can now be added to. I have many other things to stick in it after the last time working on the blue book.  And all of a sudden i have the best team member ever - who wants to share...

All of a sudden perhaps I could say that I have at last a compaƱera.

This word like so many, such as 'saudade', has online a bimbo dumbed down translation. Or at least within the more prominent online  pages. The sense, the spirit of the word, is entirely absent. CompaƱera usually means  someone on the same side; us against 'them'. And the us is generally an 'us' who resist the corporate crony conservative and military industrial complex agenda.

Because this is an 'agenda'. If one is 'right thinking people', or in slightly longer simple form: egalitarian, green and sustainability minded, progressive, and into universal human rights,  then one needs a decent real education. And in a culture of so much overhyped rubbish, knowing what the truly effective great works are, is hard. And i didn't have the time to search most of them out, alone.

And thus if there can be two, that is only a worthy coupling.

Because the most sane version of " the definition of insanity is..." is that quite clearly, though a great work, we didn't need Affluenza to tell us it really was going all wonky. Because the net results have been quite apparent for a good decade or two.

And thus.

There is a lot of work to do.

But what is the end product. The best to aim for. Which is terribly hard in that of course 'relative' is the most important word.  Both meanings.

Her extraordinary dad allowed her to "fly" as she says but i know he "allowed"  a lot lot more.... and relative to many with that background she flew in a  way that is extraordinary; but relative to all her contemporaries  - age and ... i just don't know wat that next word should be. Relative to our lot....

Sorry there are two universes and I cannot see any young person born here no matter what class or background, even able to see into the universe she inhabited the moment she said to her Talib types in essence "I feel sorry for you...you missed... now it is time for the re-match"

but then
the times i have said
" if you haven't time for the whole thing, start at about 27 minutes in...  but you may find the section that starts from 28 minutes is worn out and inaudible..i have watched it so many times.."
Because truly laughing at oneself is an art that does so much more than educating the audience, it educates the world as it did me, that her people are just as perfectly equal in every single aspect of being human such as the greatest rhetoric ever ... and if it doesn't change you, as it did me, well, watch it again.

THE COMBINED LIST

To be compiled August - sept 2022
Come back E if you are nosey...
Its just for you...
Ok another not yet born
child perhaps, too, in twenty years time.

Never on a Sunday
but... the line on Socrates Plato and Aristotle " it is a search for happiness"
I think i can do better - the last decade, it is a search not to be yourself and live better through real  communal activity - be clear, real collective stuff has really bad phases too...
